health
From the ovaries, outward, all about female-focused health and medicine.
Off the Hook. Top Story - September 2021.
My eyes focused on the illustration of the fallopian tubes as Dr. Marquez fingered me with two digits and a pencil light. Poking and prodding at my cervix, I spread my thighs like I was back at cheerleading practice warming up for a jump sequence. I wondered what she might find down there…a rash? A tear? Old remains of a cheap tampon? In all honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised. In fact, I’d be thrilled to know it was my own stinginess which rendered sex impossible, and not the Judas-level betrayal of my vagina. I needed an answer, some form of explanation as to why my butterfly was dryer than the charcoal-colored dust framing my ceiling fan. Not only for me, but for my boyfriend playing Pokémon in the waiting room.

Accidental Gardening for The Soul
That day in Bunnings I let my feet take me to the gardening section. Surreptitiously I watch real-life gardeners go about their business; knowledgeable creatures hefting bags of potting mix onto laden trolleys, discussing watering systems with each other and casting experienced eyes over compost bins. They use exotic terms like ‘wetting agents’ and ‘slow-release.’ Someone says the words plant food, and I picture giant, thorny roses devouring people whole, like perfumed anacondas.

Psychological Impact of Reproductive Health on Women
Indian women are some of the best doctors, scientists, chefs, executives, artists, engineers, designers, pilots, athletes, social workers, and businesswomen. Just name any field there is to excel at, and Indian women would find a way to leave their mark with the quality of their work. However, this is just one side of the coin, and even to reach this position, women have had to work extremely hard – fighting patriarchy, sexism, prejudices, and stereotypes. The women who are capable of leading the world are born in a society that thinks reproductive health is something to be discussed within their homes, that too with whom the society deems fit. There is no concept of discussing reproductive health with the males in Indian households, no matter how progressive the inhabitants claim they are.
