REFLECTIONS

Am I really me?

*^*

Mirror, Mirror on the wall,

Tell me what you see.

Is that gray-haired little lady

Really, really, me?

I see lines I don’t remember

Circling my eyes.

This can’t be me, oh Mirror.

You must be telling lies.

I never had these jowls before,

And my neck looks rather thick.

I’d like to give you a crack or two,

But I’m afraid I’m not that quick.

Yes, I know I’ve gotten slower!

But it’s my arthritic knee.

Please tell me dearest Mirror,

That, that lady isn’t me.

I’m much too young to look so old;

Dear Mirror, tell me true.

Is what I see the way I am?

Or am I looking back at you?

fact or fiction
