The Shape of Staying

They lean into each other without effort,

time resting gently across their faces,

lines and marks like quiet maps,

telling where they have been.

Their foreheads meet as if it is instinct,

as if the body remembers before the mind,

there is no distance left to measure,

only closeness that feels earned.

Between them, something steady exists,

not loud, not demanding attention,

just a constant presence,

that has refused to fade.

The world moves behind them,

birds cutting across an open sky,

life continuing in its restless way,

while they remain, still and certain.

A red heart lingers between their shadows,

not perfect, not untouched,

but whole in the way that matters,

held together by years, not moments.

There have been storms, unspoken here,

days that tested the strength of staying,

yet something rooted deeper than conflict,

kept them from turning away.

Their eyes close not in ending,

but in recognition of what is known,

a shared understanding that needs no words,

only presence, only being.

Time does not take this from them,

it only reshapes the edges,

what remains is quieter, stronger,
