Mourning the loss of what once was

Easter Sunday has changed

By Cheryl E PrestonPublished 2 days ago 1 min read

Little girls in petticoats and ruffled dresses

Little boys in suits and spit-shined shoes

Church sanctuaries overflowing

Easter Sunday flowers on the pews

Family and friends gathered together

To worship in joyful song

On this grand day

Everyone gets along

Later, children run across hillsides

An Easter egg hunt has begun

Seeking and finding eggs and candy

Was an annual time of great fun

But now the church pews are empty

Now, children's voices in churches are still

No more Easter egg hunts

Across the plains and hills

Easter Sunday is no longer celebrated

With several generations of family

Gathered together at church or a home

We mourn the loss but remember fondly
