My dearest love,

Your absence has left a

v o i d

in my chest.

A chasm,

Filled with

doubt,

fear,

and regret.

I simply cannot fathom,

because it feels so utterly at random,

that you’re somewhere I can’t be.

They say that light defeats the dark.

Well, now how am I supposed to see?

They say that beauty takes our breath away,

but it must be pain,

'cause I can’t breathe.

They say that Time heals all wounds,

but that’s just some cliche,

because I can’t imagine how

this dagger in my heart

will ever go away.

When we said “I Do”,

I meant forever and a day,

and although your Time here got cut short,

I’ll still love you for eternity

all the same.

Don’t worry my Love,

I won’t let the sadness swallow me.

Although,

there’s a symphony of sorrow

in my chest.

A cavern that echoes with every heart beat

beneath my breast.

Because it is your endless love

that keeps the pace now.

You know,

fire used to dazzle me.

The way it dances and sways,

giving shape to the wind.

The fire in our hearts were lit a blaze

for one another.

But I was betrayed by the fire.

When yours got consumed,

mine went out entirely.

I was left with only swirls of smoke

grasping at the air

as it was smothered by ash

too soon.

What was once a source of

warmth and comfort,

has turned into a

cold,

quite,

t h r o b.

I don’t believe the gap will ever close.

The echo won’t ever fully fade.

And I hope it doesn’t

because it’s a reminder that

you were mine.

Like a brand on my heart.

At least I have that.

There’s no pretty way to end this poem

because there was no pretty way to end us.

But I will say this:

You were a dandelion.

Resilient,

stubborn,

persistent,

strong.

A hero.

You bloomed,

selflessly gave your love away,

granting wishes to those

who crossed your path.

And then you were plucked,

and perished.

But your love was

s c a t t e r e d

by the breath of mortality.

Even in death you blossom.

I do know that you’re with me…

The wind no longer

kicks dust into my eyes.

Instead,

every now and then,

I find a single dandelion seed

tangled in my lashes.

I know it’s a kiss from you.

Please don’t ever stop.
