somewhere
within this numb
i was able to emit
a garbled grunt
semi muffled
guttural
antagonistic
hidden behind
tired eyes
not quite a sneer
but not a smile
no measure of drama
no pleasure in karma
somewhere
within all this numb
the winds of change
blow cold
braced;
i reach for a jumper
i realise
the chill
emanates
from within
so, all on my own
i tread
carefully
alone
three steps
to the left
of my tiny comfort zone
three steps
to the right
and still nowhere
near home
three steps
forward
so many people
and here’s me
all alone
three steps
backwards
[-PAUSE-]
so yes...
…and no;
i may
have been sarcastic
but it probably was
just a noise
from the back
of my throat

This really captures that restless feeling of being on your own, and I love how every small movement feels so significant.
