🧠 Barriers Are in Your Mind, Not the Dictionary: How I Used My Head to Defeat the Impossible

The Universal Translator in Your Pocket: How I Use Gemini to Run a Business in Italy.

By Piotr NowakPublished about 20 hours ago 3 min read

I spent a solid decade in England. 🇬🇧 Over those ten years, I watched hundreds of people get stuck in a rut, even though they had everything they needed to move forward. The script was almost always the same: no job, no prospects, and that one mantra repeated like a shield: "I don't know the language, so I don't stand a chance." 🛑 This sentence served as a universal suit of armor, protecting them from taking any real risks. I looked at it and felt that beneath the layers of complaining lay a paralyzing fear—a fear of stepping out of the comfort zone and admitting that the problem was internal, not environmental. 🤐

When I decided to take a leap of faith and move to Italy, the situation was, objectively speaking, reckless. 🇮🇹 I didn’t know Italian. I still don’t know it well enough to have a deep, philosophical discussion over an espresso in a Roman piazza. ☕ But I had one key advantage over my friends back in the UK: the rock-solid belief that if someone truly wants to work, they will always find a workaround. Instead of waiting for Italian to magically "enter my head," I decided to use what I had at my disposal and do what I do best. 💪

💻 A Museum of Technology and Original Creations

My command center became an old computer. If its processor were a car, it would probably be sitting in a museum as a vintage relic, sparking nostalgia in retired engineers. 🏛️ Yet, on that very machine, I began building my new world. I started writing—it was my personal therapy and my way of settling accounts with the past. 🖋️

I published a novella based on a true story from my life. I wrote it myself, without sugarcoating, admitting flat-out to every mistake I’ve made and every thing I’ve "screwed up." 📖 Then came the turn for science fiction—a tale of a world that fell to ruin at the hands of a Universal Artificial Intelligence taking control. 🤖 Creating these stories is my domain, my style, and my words. Parallel to this, however, using that same worn-out equipment, I began digging into the world of new technologies and online work. I realized that the AI I wrote about in my catastrophic novels could, in the real world, be my most powerful ally in everyday, practical tasks. 🛠️

🌿 A Gardener with a "Universal Translator" in His Pocket

It’s just past noon right now. 🕛 I’ve just returned from a client here in Italy. It was our first visit to his garden. He’s a native Italian, speaking with the passion and gestures typical of his nation. 🤌 Me? I’m the guy who catches maybe a few familiar sounds out of his flood of words. The rest? A total mystery. 🤷‍♂️ And yet, we reached an agreement on every shrub, every pruning cut, and every square meter of lawn. How is that possible if I don't know the language?

This is where AI came to my rescue—which I treat strictly as a communication tool, not as a replacement for thinking or writing my books. 📱 I prepared a simple but deadly effective prompt:

"In this chat, translate from Polish to Italian and from Italian to Polish. Do not add comments, explanations, or any other words—only translation." 📋

I entered this into the Gemini app, switched to Live mode, and suddenly my phone became a "universal translator" straight out of a sci-fi movie. 🛰️ I spoke Polish into the phone, and it immediately relayed my words to the Italian client in Italian. When he replied, I heard the Polish translation a second later. Clever, simple, and above all, effective. The language barrier, which for many is an impenetrable wall, ceased to exist for me thanks to one short command and a bit of wit. ⚡

🌟 Belief in Yourself Is the Only Engine That Matters

This story is meant to show one thing: if you want it, you can do anything. You don’t need the latest processor to create literature, and you don’t need a linguistics degree to earn money abroad. You only need an open mind and the courage to stop using a "lack of skills" as an excuse for standing still. 🚀

You can sit in England, Italy, or Poland and complain that the world is hard and you don't have the tools. Or, you can pick up an old computer, sit down to write your own honest story, and turn your phone into a tool that opens doors to local business. 🚪 You just have to believe in yourself and sometimes, instead of ramming a wall with your head, just use your brain to find the side entrance. AI won't write your life for you, but it can help you communicate with those who will help you build it. 🏗️✨
