One man coughs up seawater as he awakens. He is bald with unkempt, mangy mutton chops. Looking around he sees the other body beginning to stir. Their ragged clothes are waterlogged as they rise and approach one another.

Lights, it always began with lights. Laying in my own bed I waited heart racing in preparation for what would surely be coming once again. I am never truly alone and never truly free. Freedom means nothing to me anymore as I have only one choice, to wait and accept. A green cast slowly builds as orbs of green light pulse and throb as they enter my prison. Feeling my body tighten and go stiff as the light fell upon me. Trapped, unable to move as they neared, I felt my heart race faster. After all this time I should have been used to it but I wasn’t. Unable to look away the green light filled my vision and it tried to lull me into a trance. Unlike the others I had seen previously, prisoners like me, I was unable to fall into the trance. I suffered through the experience. Tingles along my body turned into pinpricks, pinpricks turned into feelings of needles stabbing into me. Whatever these things were did no lasting harm to my body but each experience left my mind grasping tight to sanity.

The front door is locked, and I fumble to find my key, inserting it properly, turning the lock as my chest falls into the door, the spaghetti strap slipped off my shoulder and the air conditioner greets me, cooling and setting the residue left from dancing my face off. A Haunted House : My Worst Night Ever
As a child, I never believed in ghosts. I was pretty sure that all the stories were made up to entertain kids and give adults something to be scared of. But then, one day, I found out there is a real ghost haunting my house. Every night when I go to bed, this ghost appears at the foot of my bed. It's this dark figure with long arms and a creepy face. It's been following me for weeks now and it doesn't seem like it will ever leave me alone. There are only so many late night talks with my parents that I can take before I have a complete mental breakdown. No More Light
I suppose I was delaying the inevitable. I appeared optimistic to those around me; but inside I was terrified. Betty knew it. She could see it in my eyes, always could. Those goddamned poodles. “We will get through this,” they said. “No one left behind,” they said. A bunch of bullshit. They were shutting off our power today. 30 minutes. The only thing that kept us alive was the power. No power means no more light, no more water and heat, no more appliances, and most importantly, no more electric gates. Those gates they put up around the city is the only reason we aren’t dead. The only barrier between us and those things. Whatever they are, we hadn’t got a good look at em’. We would soon.
