Spooky Saviors: Ghosts Who May Have Saved Lives
Ghosts. Maybe they don’t mean to be terrifying, but often, they are. Think about it: if you wanted someone to do you a favor, wouldn’t you just walk up to them nicely in a well-lit public space and ask? Is it really necessary to suddenly appear in a horrifying way, or, in one famous example, throw up all over someone’s tent before grabbing them from under the bed?

What Google Earth Isn’t Showing You
Google Earth is an incredible tool, letting us virtually wander almost anywhere on the globe right from our living rooms. But as comprehensive as it seems, there are some places the service keeps hidden from us, whether by blurring, editing, or completely blacking them out.

Waking Up at Your Own Funeral
One of life’s greatest mysteries is definitely what happens after we die. Some people believe in reincarnation, others believe we go to a heaven or another kind of afterlife, and still others believe we simply cease to exist. But there’s one thing most of us can agree on: once someone dies, they usually don’t come back.

Cosmic Close-Up: Black Holes and the Satellite That Saw Too Much
Back in February, the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) sent a satellite named Hitomi into space. This observatory was built to do some pretty amazing things, like capture X-rays that usually get blocked by Earth’s atmosphere. The hope was that these X-rays would let researchers see what happens right around black holes and provide critical information on how galaxy clusters form, helping to untangle some of the universe’s biggest questions.

When the Wild Comes to the Rescue
Pets are truly awesome. They offer comfort, they’re adorable, and depending on what kind of friend you have, they might even defend you. We constantly hear inspiring tales of dogs saving their owners from attackers or alerting them to immediate danger, which is somewhat expected, given the bond you share.

The Real-Life Jungle Book
Have you ever read The Jungle Book or seen the movie? I actually just watched it last week, and my number one question after watching the movie is (and this is a slight spoiler alert) how on earth could a grizzly bear, a panther, and a whole pack of wolves struggle to take down one tiger? I mean, later in the story, the kid basically takes down the tiger himself while on a boat!

Dream Home or Nightmare?
Are you currently house hunting? If so, picture this listing: a beautiful colonial-style home with five bedrooms, four baths, and 3,600 square feet. It’s a waterfront property looking out onto a serene lake, featuring granite countertops, hardwood floors, a two-car garage, and even a boathouse. Sounds perfect, right?

When Bugs Attack: The World’s Most Terrifying Insects
I think I speak for a lot of us when I say: I hate bugs. I get it, insects are a crucial part of the whole circle of life thing. But seriously, can we just get rid of mosquitoes? They are little flying spawns of Satan, and for some reason, they absolutely love me. It could be frigid outside, and one from a thousand miles away would risk freezing to death just to come and bite me.
