MISS WINCHELSEA'S HEART
Miss Winchelsea had long dreamed of going to Rome. For more than a month before her departure, she spoke of little else. She discussed Roman history, art, poetry, and famous graves as though she had personal ties to them. Some people admired her enthusiasm, but others found it excessive. A few even suggested that she was rather proud of “her Rome.” Still, Miss Winchelsea believed her passion was refined and intellectual, not boastful. She carefully prepared for the journey, selecting clothes that were sensible yet not obviously tourist-like. Even her red guidebook was hidden in a gray cover to avoid looking common. When the great day came, she stood at Charing Cross Station feeling dignified and adventurous.

I’m the kind of dame you notice. I’m no femme fatale, but you can’t ignore me, at least not until I warn you about what’s coming, then everybody ignores me. Hell, they usually blame me afterwards and give Johnny all the credit for saving the day, but my Johnny couldn’t save a seat at the movies without my help. Sure, he’s brawny, but brainy? Not so much. Like that time I asked him to spot me five bucks, and he said he didn’t see it anywhere on me, and believe you me, he looked but good.

What Am I Missing?
Day 1 My mission is simple, to learn about humans by becoming one. They’ve got a written history, but I’d rather go in fresh and improvise. I’ve been doing this a long time and consider myself an expert at blending in. Confidence is the key. If you just look like you know what you’re doing, it’s generally accepted.
