Illumination recruit rapper ‘Yeat’ for ‘Minions & Monsters’

Will the California rapper thrive in a different studio?

According to reports, hip-hop sensation Yeat has been added to the cast of ‘Minions & Monsters’.

In only a few short years, the ‘COME N GO’ rapper has gone from underground underdog to mainstream megastar, with hits like ‘IDGAF’, with Drake, ‘Out the way’, ‘If We Being Real’ and ‘Money so big’ cementing the California native as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Now, as many fans anticipate the release of his upcoming album ‘A Dangerous Lyfe’ (ADL), it has been reported that Yeat will join the cast of Illumination’s third and final Despicable Me prequel.

Critics will no doubt be concerned that Yeat is joining the project as a marketing stunt, in line with some of the other antics he’s pulled in recent weeks, but fans of his will likely be thrilled.

Yeat, real name Noah Smith, has an interesting history with the Minions franchise, having provided a song for ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ in 2022 (and causing a viral sensation as a result). A few years on, Yeat is set to make a triumphant return to the franchise, this time voicing a character, as opposed to recording a track for the film.

Noah will no doubt be starstruck by the big names surrounding him, with Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg and many more playing headline roles in the movie. But, as fans will well know, the ‘Rendezvous’ rapper is certainly used to stepping inside the studio, and will be hoping to make his mark on the production.

Minions & Monsters is the third movie in the Minions franchise, which is itself a spin-off-prequel of the worldwide phenomenon ‘Despicable Me’. Only a year after becoming the first animated franchise to surpass $5 billion in global box office, director Pierre Coffin will be looking to follow up on that success one last time.

Although the franchise’s future beyond Minions & Monsters may be a mystery, the addition of Yeat to its cast is perhaps a tactical move to capture the attention of their ageing fans one last time.

I don’t know about you, but I will certainly be seated. I’m not sure about suited, though. Hopefully this film doesn’t follow its predecessor’s trend of sweaty teens, donning suits and ties, applauding maniacally and launching popcorn!
