Artie "Mr. Fitness" Levin gave keys to artery health
The man in the photo is Artie Levin who was a local physical fitness legend in Roanoke Virginia. I remember his television program coming on at 9:30 on weekday mornings when I was a child. You can see from the image that he could jump in the air and stretch his so that his fingers touched his toes. That simple gesture could be a big factor in longevity of life, artery health, and blood pressure readings.

Sarah the Mayberry telephone operator
Sarah was the telephone switchboard operator on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. She was never seen but was mentioned in 23 episodes of the sitcom that ran from 1960-1968. Mayberry residents would pick up a telephone and ask Sarah to get them another party on the line, usually someone in Mout Pilot, Noth Carolina. Sometimes she would eavesdrop and on other occasions, Andy or Barney would have a short conversation with her. If I had to imagine what she looked like I would say that Sarah resembled the woman in the cover photo.

Rockne Tarkington portrayed Flip Conroy on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW
Young people of color today question why there were no African Americans living in Mayberry on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. They don't understand their parent's and grandparents' devotion to a series that was devoid of African Americans. There were black town residents in the background from time to time but none of them had speaking roles. This changed on March 13, 1967, when Rockne Tarkington had a speaking role in season seven of the popular series.

You might be a blunderbuss
Blunderbus definition When I was a child, my grandmother occasionally utilized a word that I never heard anyone else speak. This morning that idiom “ blunderbuss" came to mind. Grandma would call me or my brothers a blunderbuss if we were having a day where things went wrong. If we dropped a glass and it broke or knocked over some books or spilled a drink she would call us a blunderbuss. I took for granted it meant we were clumsy or all thumbs as people said back in those days.
