The loss of Mr. and Mrs.

What once was a little girl's dream is no longer popular

Echos from long ago

And oh so far away

Blow with the wind

As the trees bend and sway

Sketched in the wood

A little girl’s dream

Of taking a husband’s last name

So primitive it now seems

Once written on desktops

Notebooks and clothes

Is something many

Modern day females loath

A preacher pronounces

I now present to you

Mr. And Mrs. John Brown

The dream has come true

Two joined together as one

What a glorious sound

As congratulations

Come from all around

Today it’s not automatic

To take a spouses last name

Women choose for maiden monicker

To remain the same

Little girls no longer dream

Of being a wife

Or having one husband

For the rest of your life

But somewhere out there still

On a wooden desk or tree

Are names carved as reminders

Of who little girls once wanted to be

And widows mourn the loss

Of being their Mr's Mrs.

And a lifestyle long past

Each one truly misses
