What Comes Back

And so the feeling’s

Back again,

That something isn’t right.

I can feel it

in my bones,

Something bad’s just out of sight.

I’ve only checked

A partner’s phone

Just three times in my life

When I got

That nagging feeling

Of some vague and looming strife.

And what do you know!

Correct again,

Something shady’s brought to light.

And that feeling

Has come back once more:

Immediate fight or flight.

How did I know?

What were the signs?

I’m not happy that I’m right.

Am I sad?

Or am I angry?

Or just foolish in hindsight?

I thought you were

A good one

Who’d be always by my side.

But yet again

I’ve been let down

An endless repeating plight.

So fuck you

And fuck you again

I’ll go on with my life.

I hope that

It was worth it

To trade our love for that one night.

And don’t try

To apologise

And act like you’re contrite.

I cried

And then I dried my eyes

Now I’m bidding you goodbye.
