Outside All of These Windows

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 days ago 1 min read

[Verse 1]

Everyone keeps calling this a family

But I don't see my name on any door

Laughing in a language I can't answer

Smiling like they’ve never been at war

[Chorus]

I don't fit in with humanity

Skin and bones

But something else in me

I don't see myself in what they’ve done

If this is what we are

I must be from

Outside all these windows

Watching how they burn the house they love

[Verse 2]

Taught me all the stories of our greatness

Skipped the parts we carved each other down

Say it's just the way it's always happened

As if hurt is how a heart should make a sound

[Chorus]

I don't fit in with humanity

Skin and bones

But something else in me

I don't see myself in what they’ve done

If this is what we are

I must be from

Outside all these windows

Watching how they burn the house they love

[Bridge]

If I feel sick at what we’ve made

Does that make me less the same?

If I can't wear this shared last name

Maybe that's my saving grace (oh)

Maybe that’s my saving grace

[Chorus]

I don't fit in with humanity

Skin and bones

But something else in me

I don't see myself in what they’ve done

If this is what we are

I won't become

Another pair of hands

Striking at the ones I love

Outside all these windows

Maybe I can build a different us
