Neighbours’ Eyes

a poem

I came from a big, noisy world.

In a moment, everything was supposed

to change my life.

So many chances have slipped away.

Now is the time to overcome it all

and turn it into a positive result.

Two ladies interviewed me, not one,

which allows for more thought.

Don't let go,

your determination will reap the rewards.

Questions launched like bombs from both sides,

one after another.

“Elaborate on that. We have that.

What else can you surmise?”

This site

has a long history here,

spanning centuries of work.

The opposing side, me,

has only been here

for a few minutes.

Despite this,

they assert they will not allow any interference

with what they consider

being theirs.

“You won't ruin what's ours.

We made that clear.”

Nothing happened after, as I withdrew.

I went somewhere else

and these ruins followed me.

They brought back bad feelings and bitter regrets.

Locals gathered and whispered about how I looked,

I took pictures to remember valuable lessons.

Maybe they could teach me something other than failure.

They kept digging into me, wouldn't let me live.
