Here We Go Again

Keep the Pants

I aim this time to win, not fail

take the first step on the scale

gulp, then carefully add the note-

(track the pounds poured down my throat)

step off , then on, off, on, off again

remove my hair tie, ring, blink, then

slowly breathe- let go of stress

how did I get in this mess?

It's science- first it's in my mouth

I swallow and the stuff goes south

I could be sausage, eggs, or brussels sprout

(eventually it all comes out)

I walk, count steps, I exercise

still: see the weight there on my thighs?

I gotta lose it - I know I should

this time (PLEASE) it will stay lost for good!

I used to daily check my weight

Every morning-sharp!- at eight

was losing! Then I read that once a week

is better tracking and just a peek

would show more success

(and maybe then I'll fit that dress)

I planned the day, then I forgot

another week, alright months, I thought

the laundry shrunk, my pants got tight

but things would work they'd turn out right.

Today it's time and there they are

not lost forever- no- they didn't get far

I can see each one lost, yes each pound,

brought with them two more and come back around.

Ok- OK! I know this game

I've lost you before and accept the blame

This time you'll go this time stay lost

This time it's kale! Yes! I'll pay that cost!

Break the habit! Smash the chain!

Step up- open eyes- look. Come on brain!

Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide

Pounds ebb and rise just like the tide

Even so, here's the number-my fresh start

I'll do it for health! I'll do it for heart!

Just in case, while eating grain and plants

I think just maybe I'll keep these pants.

Haha, very clever. The constant struggle, well done, in poetry.

I hear you sister fellow poemster, i am on that roller coaster. Lately i found that the best exercise for us ladies is puffing up a hill...if the knees will allow...geez Louise. Nope, treadmill does not work. An actual hill does.
