Building Walls

But I miss him…

By Matthew BathamPublished about 5 hours ago Updated about 4 hours ago 1 min read

I’ve built walls now

Robust walls that keep them out

Them being?

Anyone who wants to get close

To know me

Intimately

.

Any regrets?

.

Well, I’ve not been hurt

Emotionally or physically

No punches or gaslighting

But I do sometimes miss

That feeling

The rising heat

That opening up can bring

.

Occasionally, I pine

For the fullness of love

The complex completeness

The we and us

Not just me

The extra at the table

Mr. ‘no plus one’

.

But that open me is dead

Beyond the walls

The sturdy walls

Unbreakable walls

.

But I miss him.
