*****

It's been years since you passed away.

An odd fact that I forgot.

That is, until one day, it appeared.

Showing signs of wear, thankfully, no rot.

A piece of paper, reminding me that:

It's been years since you passed away

*****

Not just a piece of paper, your Social Security Card.

Forgotten in a drawer that I rarely use,

Placed in a plastic bag and wrapped in delicate tissue.

Tears form in my eyes,

As I realize,

It's been years since you passed away.

*****

Dropping to my knees, I cry.

Feeling the lack of closure,

Even though I said goodbye.

All traces of you were long gone, or so I thought.

Memories flash like a camera shot,

It's been years since you passed away
