New Perspective

Honestly, I have spoken about this topic before on my account, but I am both proud and regretful that I now have a new perspective on making money from home and earning a living online, as it were.

I have always been an entreprenure and someone who knew that there was a way to earn a living from my computer. However, as the saying goes, "knowing and doing are two different things entirely." I always knew it was possible... I just could never find a way to make it stick that actually worked for me. Of course, that is because I generally thought of it as starting a business online or from home, or perhaps making money with one of the various methods you always hear about everywhere. That is, until about six or seven months ago when I started working for an established company. Yes, I was an employee... working at my home computer each day and earning a paycheck.

The Beauty and the Dread

I quickly found out that working at my personal computer for a company and earning a paycheck... is still working for a company and earning a paycheck. I was still selling my time, literal hours of my life, to a company in exchange for money. In exchange for a little over $16 per hour to be exact. Truthfully, even the minutes of my life here on Earth are worth a hell of a lot more than $16 each. On top of that... honestly... I usually hated my job still. The only real improvement between my new situation and working the jobs I had before? Now I was miserable at home instead of elsewhere.

Don't get me wrong, I was very grateful to finally be making money. I was thankful to not have a commute each day to get to work. I was thankful that I could literally work in my pajama pants and a t-shirt if I wanted. I was grateful for a lot of the factors that went into my situation. However, you quickly learn that when you work at home for a company, not only do you still have strict rules, regulations, standards, and more... they are vastly increased and often times rather anal-retentive.

Being the answering service for hundreds of companies at the same time and not knowing which company you would be answering for next, starts to take it's toll on your mind and body. Then to get past that stress and deal with everything you deal with, just to be told that this little thing caused you to sink down a "tier" in the company; which means you get worse scheduling and notes in your employee record. All of this starts to add up quickly.

New Outlook and Suggestions Based on Truth

Obviously, I know that not all work from home positions are the same and not all companies are the same. My experience will be different than the next person's experience in a number of ways. That is just a fact. Each person does a different job for a different company perhaps.

Thank being said though, I realize that one truth is constant among all of them and for everyone... as long as you are still answering to a boss and operating by rules, standards, regulations, and systems that someone else created and controls... you are still just an employee and selling your time for far less than it is worth. So, I now know without a doubt that the only way to truly get the life I want is to create and build something of my own. Somethign that generates an income within my control. Life is life and we do what we have to do, but if you never do anything different, then you'll never have anything different.

I don't know who said it, but as the saying goes, "if you always do what you've always done, then you'll always have what you've always had."
