My sister has just called me on Watsapp, which is extraordinary since Watsapp has been consistently blocked in Russia since January.
We had to use MS Teams and texting to stay in touch. When Internet started to be cut off in Russia I was panicking, not knowing how we’d keep in touch.
So when my sister WhatsApped me I was shocked.
“Has Putin died?” I asked.
“Let me check if Swan Lake's on TV,” she replied.
For non-Russian speakers: Whenever a Soviet leader died in the 1980s, they would show Swan Lake on TV before making the official death announcement.
100 words exactly makes it a Drabble.

Wow - got excited there for a minute.
🩷 brilliantly-crafted!
So is Putin dead? I didn't see anything about him. I only saw that Chucl Norris died
Riveting read and stark finish. Also reminds me of seeing the Bolshoi Ballet perform Swan Lake in St Petersburg 34 years ago. It was the time of Boris Yeltsin, in the early days of the Russian Federation. As we waited to board our CTC cruise ship in London, we watched the hammer and sickle being removed from the funnel.
Wow! Intriguing final lines!
I hope it plays soon
Waiting....in the wings and ready.
