The Wife Who Turned My Son Into a Beast

By(Haris Barki)

I trusted my wife with everything.

My home. My wealth. My future.

And most of all… my son.

He wasn’t born to me, not by blood. But love doesn’t always follow bloodlines. He was the child of a woman who had served my household faithfully for years—a gentle, kind soul who deserved more than life had given her.

So I gave her son my name.

I raised him as my own.

I planned to leave him everything.

And that… was my first mistake.

Because while I saw a son—

My wife saw a threat.

At first, I noticed nothing.

No harsh words. No open cruelty. No signs of anger.

She smiled when I was around. Spoke kindly. Played her part perfectly.

But hatred… doesn’t always shout.

Sometimes, it waits.

It hides.

It learns.

When my son turned ten, I was forced to leave home for business. It was not a journey I could avoid, and it would keep me away longer than I wished.

Before leaving, I placed everything in her care.

“Take care of them,” I told her. “Both of them. They are my world.”

She smiled.

“I will,” she said.

And I believed her.

God help me… I believed her.

That year changed everything.

While I was away, she began studying something dark. Something forbidden.

Magic.

Not the kind whispered in stories for children.

The real kind.

The kind that twists nature… and breaks it.

She learned in secret. Practiced in silence. And when she was ready—

She acted.

She took my son far from home.

No witnesses. No mercy.

And with words no human should ever speak… she turned him into a calf.

A helpless animal.

A creature without voice.

Without identity.

Without a way to tell the world who he truly was.

But she didn’t stop there.

The boy’s mother—the woman who had trusted me, who had trusted us—

She turned her into a cow.

Then she sent them both away.

To my steward.

With a simple lie:

“These are animals I’ve purchased. Take care of them.”

And just like that…

Two human lives were erased.

When I returned home, I felt something was wrong.

You know that feeling?

When the air itself feels different?

When silence speaks louder than words?

I asked about them immediately.

“Where is the boy?” I said. “Where is his mother?”

She didn’t hesitate.

“Your slave is dead,” she replied calmly. “And the boy… he disappeared two months ago. I don’t know where he went.”

Just like that.

No tears. No concern.

Just… gone.

Grief hit me hard.

But grief is strange.

You accept death faster than disappearance.

A death is final.

But a missing person?

That leaves hope.

And hope can be cruel.

I searched.

For months.

Eight long, empty months.

No sign of him.

No voice. No trace. No clue.

Just silence.

Then came the festival.

A time of celebration. Of sacrifice.

A time when joy is supposed to fill your home.

But mine…

Was already broken.

I ordered my steward to bring me the finest animal for sacrifice.

He returned with a large, healthy cow.

Strong. Well-fed.

Perfect.

Or so I thought.

I tied her.

Prepared myself.

Raised the knife.

And then—

She cried.

Not like an animal.

Not like anything I had ever heard before.

Her voice trembled with something deeper.

Something human.

Tears streamed from her eyes.

Real tears.

And in that moment…

Something inside me broke.

“I can’t do this,” I said.

“Take her away.”

My wife’s reaction was immediate.

Sharp. Angry.

“What are you doing?” she snapped. “This is the best animal we have! Kill it!”

I tried again.

For her sake.

For peace.

But again—

The crying.

The tears.

The unbearable feeling that I was about to do something terribly wrong.

“I won’t do it,” I said firmly.

“Take her away.”

The steward obeyed.

But later… he returned with news that disturbed me deeply.

“When we skinned the cow,” he said, “there was nothing inside. Just bones. No flesh. No fat. Nothing.”

It made no sense.

And yet… I felt something dark was at work.

Still, the ritual had to continue.

So I asked for another animal.

This time—a calf.

When the calf was brought to me, something strange happened.

It broke free.

Ran toward me.

And collapsed at my feet.

I froze.

It pressed its head against the ground.

As if begging.

As if pleading.

As if it knew me.

A chill ran through my entire body.

“I won’t kill this one either,” I said.

“Take it away. Care for it. Bring me another.”

My wife lost control.

“No!” she shouted. “This is the one you must sacrifice!”

But I stood firm.

Something inside me refused.

And that refusal…

Saved my son’s life.

The next day changed everything.

My steward came to me quietly.

“My lord,” he said, “I have something important to tell you. But you must promise not to react too quickly.”

I nodded.

He continued.

“My daughter… she knows magic.”

That alone was enough to catch my attention.

But what he said next…

Shattered me.

“She saw the calf,” he said. “And she smiled… then cried.”

“Why?” I demanded.

He took a deep breath.

“She said… the calf is your son.”

The world stopped.

“She said the cow you almost sacrificed…” he continued softly, “was his mother.”

I couldn’t breathe.

I couldn’t think.

I couldn’t even stand.

“And your wife…” he finished, “is the one who did this.”

I didn’t wait.

I ran.

To the stable.

To the calf.

To my son.

I fell beside him.

Touched his face.

And though he could not speak…

I knew.

A father always knows.

Hope returned.

For the first time in nearly a year.

I went to the steward’s daughter.

She was calm. composed.

Powerful in a way I couldn’t explain.

“Can you bring him back?” I asked.

“Yes,” she said.

“But on two conditions.”

I would have agreed to anything.

“First,” she said, “you must allow him to marry me.”

I didn’t hesitate.

“Done.”

“Second,” she said, “I must be allowed to punish your wife.”

That… gave me pause.

But only for a moment.

“Spare her life,” I said.

“Do what you must… but let her live.”

She agreed.

She brought water.

Whispered words that seemed to bend the air itself.

Then she poured it over the calf.

And in a single breath—

He was human again.

“My son…”

I held him as if I could stop the world from ever taking him again.

True to his nature, he agreed to marry the one who saved him.

And before their marriage…

Justice was done.

My wife—

The woman I once trusted more than anyone—

Was transformed.

Not into something monstrous.

Not into something terrifying.

But into a hind.

A creature gentle…

Silent…

And forever unable to harm again.

I chose that form for her.

Not out of kindness.

But as a reminder.

A reminder that evil doesn’t always look evil.

Sometimes…

It smiles at you.

Sleeps beside you.

Promises to protect what you love.

And then destroys it.

Now, I travel the world.

Searching for my son, who has since gone his own way.

And I take her with me.

Always.

The hind you see beside me?

She was once my wife.

And every step she takes…

Is a reminder of what jealousy can become.
